Stroll around Megalochori
There are so many photographic scenes around every corner, and we had so much fun exploring with zero agenda and just discovering this enchanting town. If you’re looking for some Instagrammable spots, you’ll find dozens just walking around this charming town.

Visit Secluded Thermi Beach
For some of the best caldera views you’ll ever see, you should trek down to a secluded black-pebble beach below Megalochori called Thermi Beach. It’s not the easiest beach to get to, as you’ll have to make your way down a steep, narrow path which takes about half an hour (and longer to get back up!) but is totally worth it!

Cooking Classes
Cook the most traditional Greek/Santorinian recipes with professional, local chefs. They will lead you through the elaboration of a 4-course Greek meal, which you will cook while exchanging experiences with your small group classmates from all over the globe, sharing laughter, wine and local food to nibble on throughout the cooking lesson. At the end, you will enjoy and taste the menu you prepared together with great local wines.

Explore underground caves
Secret underground Caves are a fun surprise to discover in Megalochori! You can find signs for them and they’re free to visit, so you definitely need to check some of them out. Back in the day, these caves were used as warehouses by local traders and were later used by the residents for storing wine, which some locals still do. They’re all a bit different, so it’s fun to see what you’ll find! It was definitely a little spooky in there, but fun to check out!

Symposium Cultural Center
A place Symposion is dedicated to preserving Greece’s cultural heritage. Inspired by the nine muses of Greek mythology, Symposion is a cultural center housed in a turn of the century winery, offering an immersive experience of music, art and mythology to locals and to visitors from around the world in a boutique setting.

Wine tasting in Megalochori

Megalochori is a wine lover’s dream. Not only does it have some amazing wine but you get to enjoy the experience in serenity without a ton of other tourists around. Winemaking is engrained in Magalochori’s history as it was known as the main hub for the export of a dark, sweet wine called Vinsanto (which is actually not the same as Italy’s Vin Santo!) in the first half of the 20th century. So the area is full of some charming local wineries that you can visit with an organized wine tasting tour or go check out on your own.

Venetsanos Winery
Venetsanos Winery was built in 1947 by the Venetsanos family and was the island’s very first industrial winery. And the place is stunning! The winery itself is set in the hills with incredible views over the caldera and islands. There are tours to learn some fascinating history and some of the traditional and more modern wine-making techniques And then, ofcourse, there’s the wine tasting! You can also book a wine tasting with a food pairing, light lunch, or even as unset tasting! The Venetsanos Winery is open daily from 11 am to 6 pm and their sunset terrace is open during the summer months (June – September) from 6 pm to 10 pm.

Gavalas Winery
Another winery that dates back to the 18th century, Gavalas Winery, is a family-run business with lots of history and prominence in the area. They focus more on small batches and are the only winery in Santorini that makes wine from the rare, indigenous types of grapes called Katsano and Voudomato. Gavalas is the perfect place if you want a friendly, relaxed place to learn some history and taste some truly amazing wine! Wine tasting runs April through October from 11 am to 7 pm and November through March from11 am to 4 pm.

Boutari Winery
Friendly place, quality wine, and delicious food. Boutari Winery has it all covered! Its white-washed walls and white dome make it one of the coolest wineries I’ve ever seen!
